This100 feet (35 meters) high tree provides its buds to prepare the Gemmotherapy extract. It likes alkaline, cool, deep, humid soils and can live up to 200 years. Ash is one of the trees best anchored in the ground thanks to its deep taproot and strong horizontal roots. It is not sociable, as it grows, its roots extend in all directions, preventing the growth of other plants around it. It is nevertheless a usual companion of oak, beech and hornbeam. Its reddish flowers appear before the leaves. The buds are very large, black and soft. For Greek mythology, Common Ash is the wood of Poseidon, the god of the sea and earthquakes. In the Scandinavian tradition, it is Yggdrasil, the cosmic tree, the axis of the world, which represents the link between the infernal, underground worlds and the celestial spheres, a symbol of immortality. Among the Celts, it was one of the 7 chief trees, represented the symbol of the eternal cycle of reincarnation and the Druids used its wood to make magic wands. Hildegard of Bingen said about it: “The ash tree purifies humors, it helps to see clearly, to put man back on the right path”. In phytotherapy, the leaves, bark and young branches are used for their diuretic, anagelsic, tonic, febrifuge, laxative and anti-inflammatory properties. The bark has a febrifuge and tonic activity and was called Chinchona of Europe. For more than 300 years, this tree has had a reputation in popular tradition for fighting the accumulation of toxins in the body.
