It is the young shoots of this small shrub that are used for the preparation of the Gemmotherapy Extract. Heather is an evergreen shrub. Heather is a highly branched, evergreen shrub, 0.6 to 2 feet (20 to 70 cm) high. It has deep roots forming a lacis impenetrable to the expansion of other species, and which live in symbiosis with a fungus (mycorrhizae). The latter provides the plant with a nutritional supplement and, in turn, Heather provides carbohydrates. Heather loves exhausted, acidified, decomposed and worn soils. In fact, its presence indicates extreme soil poverty. It is a colonizing plant of peat bogs. It can be found in association with blueberry, cranberry and juniper. The Heather exerts on the poor lands that it colonizes an action that further degrades them. Its profuse flowering signs the festival of the siliceous grounds since the spectacle is so beautiful. Heather is capable of giving a landscape a dreamy face. The purple color of the flowers is related to the bladder-shaped chalice (Paracelsus signature theory). Heather is also called “Erica” which means to break, to pierce. It is said that Heather is capable of piercing stone.
