The buds of this majestic tree are used for the preparation of Elm Gemmotherapy Extract. Native to Europe, the Mediterranean and the Caucasus regions, the Elm is a robust but demanding tree in terms of soil, climate and light, growing well in soft, fresh, deep soil, rich in minerals and humus. it grows equally well on any soil, even calcareous, clayey and sandy, as long as it is humid. The Elm is a long-lived tree that can reach 500 years and 60 to 90 feet (20 to 30 meters) in height. Its trunk is straight and slender and its bark is dark brown and forms longitudinal fissures after 10 years of age. The numerous tracing roots suckle vigorously, the tree is invasive. The fruits are samaras with a wing to facilitate the spread of the fruit. Its wood is compact and resistant to shocks and water.
Elm has been known as a medicinal plant since ancient times. The tree thus appeared very early and in a good place on the tablets of materia medica. In the 1st century, the leaves already had the reputation of healing skin diseases and wounds. Popular practice has long relied on the astringent and wound-repairing Elm. Dom Nicolas Alexandre, a French Benedictine monk (1654-1728) wrote: “Everything is vulnerary in the elm tree”. Le liquide des galles de l’orme a aussi été utilisé oiur guérir les blessures. At the end of the 18th century, several English doctors returned to the indications of Dioscorides by making the Elm the specific, so-called sovereign, of the most rebellious dermatosis. Unfortunately, excessive praise was followed by unjust disdain, and the Elm was gradually abandoned until its return in the form of gemmotherapy extract.
