Giant Redwood Gemmotherapy Extract is prepared with the young shoots of this giant tree. Native to the United States where it lives exclusively in the Sierra Nevada in California, up to 6000 feet (2000 meters) of altitude. Its longevity is also exceptional since it can live more than 3000 years. It was transplanted to Europe and other countries for ornamental purposes. But in these countries it is smaller. True plant monuments, these gigantic trees are the world’s most voluminous conifers, being able to exceed, in their place of origin, the incredible height of 300 to 360 feet (100 to 120 meters) with a basal diameter exceeding 27 feet (9 meters) and a circumference reaching over 90 feet (30 meters). But this giant has feet of clay because its roots are ridiculously small compared to its size, they are shallow (6 to 9 feet – 2 to 3 meters – deep) but extend up to 90 feet (30 meters) around the trunk. Its bark is reddish, thick, fibrous, streaked, spongy, soaked with water and tannins that make it rot-proof and protect it from fire. It likes humid and sunny climates.

Its name comes from Chief See-quayah (1770 – 1844), inventor of the Cherokee alphabet, which allowed the legends of his people to be transmitted in written form. Chilula native elder Minnie Reeves called them “a special gift from the Great Creator. The Great Creator took a little medicine from each of the trees he had created, prayed, sang a powerful song and mixed it with a little of our blood. And from this dough he made the Redwood. And he left it on the earth as a sign of love for his children.”
