The bud of this ancient tree is the source of Ginkgo biloba Gemmotherapy Extract. Ginkgo biloba is the only species of a single genus in the family Ginkgoaceae. The species is considered extinct in the wild, only trees planted by man remain. This tree is a real living fossil, it already existed before the appearance of man on earth, 200 million years ago, at the time of the Jurassic era. This is the only surviving example of the first egg trees. In the words of Jean-Marie Pelt, French biologist, botanist and pharmacist, this tree “lays eggs”. From the age of 30 onwards, female feet carry eggs consisting of a toxic fleshy part and an edible almond, which the Chinese called “silver apricot” because of its shape. It is he who “invented” the notion of sexual reproduction later developed by conifers and especially the deciduous trees with their flowers (angiosperms).

The leaves, characterized by their peculiar two-lobed shape (hence the name biloba), are soft green in color and turn golden yellow in autumn, thanks to the presence of green algae with which the tree lives in symbiosis. This color has given the Ginkgo the name of “hundred crowns tree”. The Ginkgo biloba has a slow growth and an exceptional longevity since it can live more than 3000 years. It can withstand all kinds of pollution, including nuclear pollution, it survived the bombing of Hiroshima during the Second World War. Chinese medicine already mentioned its use 1500 B.C. as a circulatory remedy.

A sacred tree and emblem of the Samurai, it is the symbol of loyalty and immortality.
