Rosemary’s primary action is as a tonic for both liver and adrenal glands. As a source of antioxidants, it protects the liver and resolves inflammatory states. As an adrenal tonic, Rosemary is more stimulating than Black Currant. Its secondary action is as a tonic for the gall bladder, supporting the digestive system (lipids). There is a tonifying action on the CNS (memory and concentration).

The young shoots of this small bushy evergreen perennial shrub are the source of the Rosemary Gemmotherapy Extract. Rosemary is distributed throughout the Mediterranean basin to the arid semi-desert areas of Asia Minor. It privileges the sun, the open spaces, the scrubland, the rocky soils and the proximity of the sea, as its name “dew of the sea” suggests. Very branchy and vigorous shrub plant, it has deep, fibrous and strong roots that allow it to well anchor in water-poor soils. Its evergreen, tough, aromatic leaves have adapted to the torrid climate thanks to their curved margins. They are very rich in oil glands that produce an antioxidant and antimicrobial essential oil.

Cultivated around the world as a medicinal, ornamental, culinary, and essential oil-bearing plant, Rosemary was already known to the Egyptians who used it for their worship. Since ancient Greece and Rome, it is a symbol of remembrance. Greeks used the herb to help their memory, to expel negativity by placing the sacred herb under the pillow, and to prevent nightmares. It was also used in religious ceremonies, public and intimate festivities, as a symbol of love, marriage and death. Later, Paracelsus, a Swiss physician, alchemist and astrologer of the 16th century, recommended it as an ointment for rheumatism.
