The buds of this small tree are the source of Rowan Gemmotherapy Extract. A mediterranean tree from 45 to 60 feet (15 to 20 meters) high, it grows in warm, south-facing places since it requires a lot of light. It grows slowly but for a long time since it can live up to 600 years, and it always lives sporadically on calcareous substrates of different nature. The extensive root system of Rowan can be compared to the network of our circulatory systems, lymphatic and vascular.

The use of its fruits has been documented since ancient times. Cultivated by the Romans as a fruit tree, the Rowan tree provided with its tannin-rich fruits a reputed remedy against nausea, diarrhea and dysentery. They also made it a fermented drink close to cider. Among the Celts, the Rowan tree was a sacred tree for the druids who considered it to be the tree that helps to put itself at the service of others while maintaining its own independence.
