Symbol of friendship, fidelity and love, this large tree provides its buds for the preparation of Silver Lime Gemmotherapy Extract. Reaching up to 90 feet (30 meters) tall, Silver Lime, native to Southeast Europe and Asia Minor, grows in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It demands fresh, deep, light, calcium-rich soils, but can adapt to moist soils as well. It prefers a sunny position and tolerates cold only when its roots are well developed. It has a strong root, almost a taproot from which numerous long lateral roots grow. It grows slowly and can live more than 1000 years. Its smooth bark in the early years, wrinkles with age. Under the bark, its fibrous sapwood is used in phytotherapy for its draining and diuretic properties. Its heart-shaped leaves make up foliage that will produce good quality humus. Its delicately scented yellowish flowers attract bees. Their voluminous bracts give birth to fruits that fly away like small helicopters.
In tradition, Silver Lime is linked to femininity. Germanic mythology dedicates it to Frija, the goddess of love. For the Celts, it was the tree of truth, clemency and conciliation. Saint Hildegard was already advising its buds in the 12th century, and its wood, considered sacred by the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages, was used to make statues of the Saints.
In folk medicine, the flowers are used for their calming properties and sapwood for its draining capacities.

Silver Lime is a paradoxical tonic. While it is a harmonizing and sedative extract, in sensitive individuals, particularly those with intestinal dysbiosis, it can actually produce the opposite effect. The reaction is likely due to the overstimulation of receptors in the brain. This sensitivity at the brain level can be explained as an allergic response in some ways. In cases with this sensitivity combining it with Common Fig will block this response at the brain level. Can disturb sleep if taken too late in the day.
